Antebellum is a film in the genre of "half horror" of America written by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. The film is also their debut work as directors. The film stars Janelle Monae, Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Klersey Clemona, and Gabourey Sidibe.
Antebellum is set in the US Civil War with Eden - a black slave belonging to the Confederate Army. There, she had to labor in the fields managed by Captain Casper and was brutally tortured, beaten, and exploited. They must serve every request of the soldiers and must not open their mouths unless they have to answer. Moving on to the present, Veronica Henley (Janelle Monae) is a famous political activist for the rights of colored females. Her career was very successful, having a happy life with his family and daughter. However, due to dissent from the white male parliamentarian, Veronica was targeted. When she goes out to eat with friends, she is kidnapped by strangers. By the time she woke up, she had become a chained slave. The two contexts and timelines have a link that leads to surprises.
