Abandoned by their father deep in a forest, the children Hansel and Gretel enter a candy house and are trapped by the old witch who lives in it. The witch locks Hansel in a cage and continuously feeds him sweets while she makes Gretel prepare the oven, but the brothers are bolder and push the witch into the fire killing her. Fifteen years after the incident Hansel and Gretel have become famous bounty hunters dedicated to ruthlessly exterminating witches. Their job is relatively easy as, for an unknown reason, they are immune to his spells and curses. Hansel, however, is diabetic as a result of his abduction and has to receive an insulin injection every day.
One day, in the city of Augsburg, Hansel and Gretel prevent Sheriff Berringer from executing Mina, a young woman accused of witchcraft. Mayor Englemann has hired the brothers to find and rescue the children kidnapped by the witches. Berringer, wary of Hansel and Gretel's techniques, hires trackers for the same mission in hopes of regaining the Mayor's respect and challenging the brothers.
However, all but one of the group are killed that night by the powerful dark witch Muriel, who sends the surviving member back to the city's cursed and exploding tavern as a warning to the locals. Hansel and Gretel, with the help of Mayor's Deputy Jackson, capture and interrogate a witch from Muriel's coven. They discover that witches are preparing for the blood moon ritual, which requires sacrificing six boys and six girls, each born in a different month. Suddenly Muriel, another witch, and a troll named Edward attack the city and kidnap the remaining girl. Gretel confronts Muriel and is knocked unconscious as a result of her attack, but she is taken to safety by a boy named Ben, a great admirer of the brothers and aspiring witch hunter, who takes care of her until she recovers the sense of it. At the same time, Hansel grabs Muriel's henchman witch running away from her on her broom, but she gets lost in the woods.
