As the follow-up story of "Journey to the West", Tang Sanzang in the last episode probabilistically influenced the Monkey King who killed Miss Duan, and after accepting him as a disciple, he took Monkey King, Zhu Bajie and Drifting, and a group of four set foot on the west to learn the scriptures. The journey, the journey is treacherous, to eliminate demons and demons, the four masters and apprentices also have their own growth and changes in the process of learning.
Monk Tang Sanzang (Kris Wu) arrives in a city in India, preceded by his reputation. His master congratulates him for having arrived as far as India and for having found the Sutras, and gives him a halo as a reward. This halo, however, malfunctions and Tang wakes up in a village of circus performers with his three disciples: Sun Wukong (Lin Gengxin (en)), Zhu Bajie (Yang Yiwei), and Sha Wujing (Mengke Bateer). Tang encourages Sun Wukong to perform in front of the villagers, but he refuses. Insisting, he annoys Sun Wukong by insulting him as a "bad monkey" and the latter begins to ravage the village. The terrified villagers then offer the group money and food to continue their journey, but Sun Wukong continues to wreak havoc, propelling Zhu Bajie and Tang into the air. In the evening, Tang whips Sun Wukong for his disobedience.
After a series of demon-capturing events, the monk and his disciples gain mutual understanding of each others' hardships and unease. Finally, they resolve their inner conflict and work together to become an all-conquering, demon-exorcising team.
