Kingdom is a Japanese film directed by Shinsuke Satō and released in 2019 in Japan. It is an adaptation of the eponymous manga by Yasuhisa Hara.
The story draws on the life of Li Xin, a general of Qin, from his orphan childhood to his career as a warrior during the Warring States period in China.
It totaled more than $ 50 million at the 2019 Japanese box office. A sequel is in production.
Orphaned by the war, Li Xin (Kento Yamazaki) dreams of leaving his status as a servant by becoming a general. He makes a decisive encounter with the boy destined to become Emperor Qin, Ying Zheng (Ryō Yoshizawa) who turns out to be a vital ally in Xin's quest for greatness. Together, the young men seek to reclaim Zheng's throne and unite the Warring States under one banner.
