Logan (2017) Review

By 2029, no mutants have been born for 25 years, and an old Logan has reduced healing. Working as a limo driver in El Paso, Texas, by birth name James Howlett, he and the mutant Caliban watcher care for 90-year-old Charles Xavier, Logan's mentor and founder of the X-Men, in an abandoned smelter in northern Mexico. Xavier had dementia that caused him to have destructive convulsions; It was hinted that a year ago, such a seizure unleashed a powerful telepathic wave that injured more than six hundred people and killed seven others, including various X-Men.

Logan reluctantly agrees to escort Gabriela López, a former nurse of the Alkali-Transigen biotech corporation, and a young girl named Laura to Eden, a refuge "north" across the border. After discovering Gabriela is dead, Logan is confronted at his Mexico hideout by her killer Donald Pierce, who is Transigen's director of robot security. Pierce is looking for Laura, who has kept it in Logan's limo and has powers similar to him. She, Logan and Xavier escaped from Pierce and his Reavers, but Caliban was tortured for spying on Laura.

A video on Gabriela's cell phone shows that Transigen created Laura and the other children from mutated DNA to become weapons; Laura was created from Logan's DNA. When they proved difficult to control and Transigen found an alternative, the children would be killed, but Gabriela and the other nurses helped some of them escape. In Oklahoma City, Logan discovered that Eden appeared in Laura's X-Men comic and told her it was fiction. Reavers arrives, but Xavier has a seizure that leaves everyone powerless except for Logan and Laura, who kill the attackers and inject Xavier with drugs. When they fled, Dr. Zander Rice (the head of Transigen) came to help Pierce.   Logan, Laura and Xavier help farmer Will Munson and family after a traffic incident, accepting a dinner offer at their home, where Logan kicks the enforcers off a corporate farm. Rice unleashes the X-24, an early replica of Logan and is his replacement for the children's show, who murdered the Will and Xavier families, stabbed Will and arrested Laura. He also kills the executors, who mistook him for Logan and tried to kill him. Caliban put on grenades, committed suicide and some Reavers, but only wounded Pierce. Logan is defeated by the X-24, but Will uses his truck to staple the X-24 and shoot him three times with a shotgun before dying of his injuries. Logan and Laura escaped with Xavier's body.

After Xavier's burial, Logan lost consciousness. Laura took him to a doctor and convinced him to prove that the location in North Dakota was not Eden. There, they found Rictor and other Transigen children preparing to move to Canada. Laura found an adamantium bullet that Logan had kept since he escaped the Weapon X facility, which he once considered using to commit suicide. Logan decided that his job was done and decided not to go with them, to Laura's disappointment.   When Reavers ambushed the children, Logan overdosed on a serum given to him by Rictor to temporarily boost his healing powers and boost his powers. With Laura's help, he kills most of the Reavers before the serum wears off. When Pierce shot Rictor with a gun, Rice told Logan, who killed Rice's father many years ago at the Weapon X facility, that no new mutations had been generated by the genetically modified crop produced by Transigen and distributed. through food supplies for the world. Logan, after finding a gun, shoots Rice and injures Pierce. X-24, enraged at Rice's death, fights Logan as the children combine their powers to kill Pierce and the rest of the Reavers. Rictor used his powers to flip a truck onto the X-24, but he freed himself and pressed Logan against a large tree branch. Laura loaded Logan's revolver with an adamantium bullet and shot the X-24 in the head, killing him.   As she approached death, Logan told Laura not to be the weapon she was made of, and after she tearfully admitted he was her father, he died peacefully in her arms. Laura and the children buried Logan, and Laura tilted the cross over his grave marker to create an X, honoring him as the last of the X-Men, before she and the kids started. to the Canadian border.
