The Nun is a 2018 American supernatural thriller film directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman, based on the original storyline of Dauberman and James Wan. This is a spin-off of the 2016 film The Conjuring 2 and also the fifth film of the franchise The Conjuring Universe. The film stars Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons returns as The Devil, also known as Valak, from The Conjuring 2. The film is set in Romania. 1952, with the content revolving around a Roman Catholic monk and nun, discovered a terrifying secret.
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema endorsed the The Nun project, a spin-off from The Conjuring 2, with Safran and Wan taking over the directorial position. The original screenplay was written by David Leslie Johnson. Hardy signed a contract as the director of the Devil with a new script by Wan and Dauberman. Main filming began in May 2017 in Bucharest, Romania. During filming, the filming site was also blessed by a Catholic clergy.
The nun was a Warner Bros. company. Pictures premiered in the US on September 7, 2018. Experts praised the performance and atmosphere in the work, and also criticized the weak and illogical storytelling. The film grossed $ 365.6 million worldwide, becoming the brand's highest-grossing movie.
The film is set in 1952 in Romania, two Roman Catholic nuns living at the Monastery of Cârța enter a dark tunnel, holding a key with the aim of reclaiming an ancient Christian relic.
