The World of Kanako is a Japanese thriller and mystery film directed by Tetsuya Nakajima and released in 2014, starring Yakusho Koji
Adapted from Fukamachi Akyuu's novel "Endless Desire" (果てしなき渇き), the book won the ""This Mystery Novel Is Amazing!" Award in 2005.
The film is directed by Tetsuya Nakajima, who once directed the 2010 film "Confession". Tetsu Nakajima also said that he was very interested in the novels and stories, especially the male protagonist in it: "I have never seen such a bad person in Japanese movies in recent years. After he was bruised and bruised, he found affection for his daughter instead. This process is infuriating and unbearable. It's exciting and it makes me want to make his movie." As a result, Nakajima gave up the opportunity to shoot the live-action film "Attack on Titan" and took over the film, saying: "This is a nightmare work. It will never be made into a movie, but my goal is to make it. A violent fantasy movie unprecedented in Japanese movie history."
The leading actors and actresses are played by the veteran actor Yoshio Koji and the new actress Komatsu Nana, and are assisted by famous actors such as his wife Miki Satoshi and Nakatani Miki. The lineup is called "the most gorgeous Japanese film history" . Director Tetsuya Nakajima once said that only Yakusho Koji can simultaneously show madness, comicality, horror, and indiscretion, but he initially thought that Yakusho would not want to take on such a cruel story, so "half of his heart is dead", but he is not the same as Tetsuya Nakashima. Koji Yakusho, who had worked with him, said that "being able to perform this role is my happiness as an actor" and immediately accepted the invitation. The newcomer Komatsu Nana was evaluated by Nakajima as "both innocent and glamorous and terrifying innocence, and coming to a new generation of femme fatale with an overwhelming aura" .
The filming was completed at the end of 2013. It was originally scheduled to be shown in Japan on July 4, 2014, but in the end the filmmaker decided to release it in theaters on June 27 a week earlier, and provide high school and college students with 1,000 Japanese yen admission discount until July 4 (the original release date) . The promotion period was later extended to July 18.
The slogan of the movie is "Daughter of deep love, turned out to be a devil." (爱する娘は, バケモノでした.) and "Drug entertainment that blows you rationally" (あなたの說理をぶっ飞ばと剧薬ンゃンゃン. The Film Ethics Committee rated the film as restricted
