Seventeen-year-old Bella Swan moves in with her father, Charlie, in a small town called Forks, Washington after her mother remarries. She quickly makes new friends in high school, but is still attracted by a group of seemingly mysterious siblings known to everyone as the Cullen House. Bella sits next to Edward Cullen in Biology class during her first class at school, and he seems to hate her, making Bella feel confused. She did not know that, Edward could read people's minds, but to her, he could not read anything. This makes the guy always confusing and wants to stay away from her. A few days later, Bella is almost hit by a truck, but Edward suddenly shows up and blocks the truck with just one hand. Although refusing to explain her actions to Bella, Edward warns her not to befriend him.
Bella finally discovers the fact that Edward is a vampire, even though he only drinks animal blood, and they fall in love. When Edward introduced Bella to his family of vampires, Carlisle Cullen, Esma, Alice, Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie, a dangerous situation happened when she was nearly attacked by Jasper due to Jasper's inability to hold her back Body from the blood stream of unprecedented appeal to her vampire. Then three nomadic vampires — James, Victoria, and Laurent — appear and put Bella in a life-threatening situation. James, a predatory vampire, stimulated by Edward's human protections, decides to hunt her for fun. Edward and his family are determined to protect Bella at all costs, but James deceives her by making her believe that he is holding her mother hostage. James attacks and bites Bella, but Edward, along with the rest of the Cullen family, arrives before he kills her. James is defeated, and Edward is forced to suck the poison from James's bite in Bella's hand, preventing her from becoming a vampire.
